 Q. Common Information Question: 3/5 The percentage increase in the savings from2001 to 2002 is how many percentage points more than that of transport?
 ✖ A. 66.66 ✔ B. 100 ✖ C. 133.33 ✖ D. 150.25 ✖ E. 200.75

Solution:
Option(B) is correct

Savings in 2001:

$=\dfrac{1,20,000×20}{100} =24,000$

Savings in 2002:

$=\dfrac{2,40,000×108}{360}= 72,000$

⇒ % Increase in Savings:

$= \dfrac{48,000}{24,000}×100$

$= 200\%$

Amount spent on transport in 2001:

$= \dfrac{1,20,000×5}{100}$

$= 6,000$

Amount spent on transport in 2002:

$= \dfrac{2,40,000×36}{360}$

$= 24,000$

⇒ % Increase in the amount spent on transport:

$= \dfrac{18,000}{6,000}×100$

$= 300\%$

The percentage point difference:

$= 200 - 300$

$= -100$

⇒ Less by 100 percentage points.

Alternate method:

Total salary in 2002 was increased by 100%

Share of saving in 2002 is 30%, when the total salary increased by 100%, share of saving will also be doubled i.e., 60% similarly, the share of transport in 2002 is 20%.

Percentage increase in saving is 20% to 60% i.e., 200%

Percentage increase in transport is 10% to 20% i.e., 100%

Difference in percentage is 100% points.
