**Solution:**

Option(**C**) is correct

Let the percentage of the total votes secured by Party $D$ be $x$%

Then the percentage of total votes secured by Party $R = (x – 12)\%$

As there are only two parties contesting in the election, the sum total of the votes secured

by the two parties should total up to 100%

i.e.,$ x + x – 12 = 100$

$2x – 12 = 100$ or

$2x = 112$ or

$x = 56%.$

If Party $D$ got 56% of the votes, then Party got $(56 – 12) = 44$% of the total votes.

44% of the total votes $= 132,000 $

i.e., $(\dfrac{44}{100})×T = 132,000$

⇒ $T = (\dfrac{132,000}{44}×100) = 300,000$ votes.

The margin by which Party $R$ lost the election = 12% of the total votes

= 12% of 300,000 = **36,000**

d got 12 votes more than r.... so d got x+12 votes....

x+(x+12) = 100

x=44

here x = 44 that means r got 44 votes.....

in the question given that r got 132000 votes.....

and asked by how many votes he lose the election....

d got (x+12) --> (44+12) i.e., 12 votes r lose to d....

so we should calculate how many does 12 imply according to question.....

44 ------> 132000

12 ------> ?

(12 * 132000) / 44 = 36000

simply consider it as 100% of both parties. then you need to know 12% of winning party and if it is then loosing party votes are 44%. because (12/2=6) 50%-6%=44%. now by applying this =12/44*132000 answer will be 36000.

when we add R votes and D votes we get total votes

132000+132000+12% * TV = TV

264,000+ 3/25 * TV=TV

25(264000)+3 TV= 25 TV

Shortcut,

In case of Votes that Losing Party got given

$\text{Difference in Votes}$ = $\dfrac{2\times{\text{Votes that Losing Party got}\times{\text{% Difference}}}}{100- \text{% Difference}}$

In case of Votes that Winning Party got given

$\text{Diff. in Votes}$ = $\dfrac{2\times{\text{Votes that Winning Party got}\times{\text{% Difference}}}}{100+\text{% Difference}}$

0.16 is percent decrease in time

suppose the distance covered is D and time T..

so, 20% increase means, speed= D/T + D/5T = 6D/5T..

now let distance is constant (D) and time is redued to T'

so, D/T' = 6D/5T... or, T'= Tx(5/6)x 100% = 83.33%...

that means time will be decreased by (100-83.33) = 16.66%..

0.16% is percent decrease in time
